Sounds Like Fun with DJ Jivefresh

  • Punch House 1227 West 18th Street Chicago, IL, 60608 United States (map)

Southside born and raised, Nate Carter was magnetized by DJ culture long before he ever attempted to perform. As a selector with over fifteen years in the game, the artist professionally known as Jivefresh - a veteran of intimate speakeasies, festival mainstages and everything in between - credits his fellow DJs for being as inspiring to his journey as the music itself. His preferred sound aspires to the energy of a basement house party, encompassing a 70s-90s aesthetic of funk, boogie, boom bap, the soulquarian era, groove heavy electronic and tasteful edits/reworks. With a style known as #ModernVintage, a DJ Jivefresh set is open format by design, intentionally unplanned, curated live and intended to find the middle ground between music that’s timeless and music that inevitably will be.

With an insatiable desire to advocate for improved visibility and opportunity for his mentors and peers, In 2018 Nate moved beyond performance to launch Sounds Like Fun; a bespoke curation initiative dedicated to pairing equitable & ethical venues/events with a multi-generational group of the best DJs working from a growing roster of over 60 artists with regional, national and international exposure, all of whom have deep connections with or roots in Chicago. Under the banner of Sounds Like Fun, Nate has worked as curator and music director for event clients like BPM Music Group, Revel Global Events and Salesforce, and spaces such as The Darling, Chit Chat Lounge, McCormick Place and The Walk in, where he's anchored the music program with Logan Square's longest running monthly event since 2017.

While maintaining select availability for savvy private event clients, Jivefresh can be found performing regularly at over a dozen destination lounges, restaurants and hotels in neighborhoods throughout the Chicagoland area, since 2009.
